Japan Blue

I visited Ai-zome indigo dyeing factory in Mashiko, Tochigi. The factory is a renovated old traditional Japanese house which has many dye pots as shown in the photo. Ai-zome fabric has the rich and deep blue. Since I've been thinking about making a tote bag of the Ai-zome fabric with a frumafar. fabric lining, I asked the craftsman to dye a canvas fabric for the project. He willingly said yes!

栃木県益子町にある日下田（ひげた）藍染工房を訪れました。茅葺屋根の古い建物の工房の中にはたくさんの甕があり、そこで藍染めされた生地や小物が販売されていました。
この丁寧に染め上げられた深く濃い藍色の生地とフラマファーのふわっと明るい生地をあわせたら、、そんな組み合わせの手提げバッグが欲しいなあと思いさっそく職人さんにご相談して藍染め帆布を作成していただくことになりました。仕上がりがとても楽しみです。
